Squarespace SEO for design-led brands and small stores
Squarespace looks good out of the box. We make sure it reads well to search engines too, using the built-in settings, URL mappings and content that answers real searches.
Squarespace SEO: what it covers
Squarespace handles the technical basics for you: hosting, SSL, a generated sitemap, mobile-friendly templates and some automatic structured data. In exchange you give up control. There is no robots.txt editor, the sitemap cannot be edited by hand, and you work within the code each template produces. Most gains therefore come from the things you can change: page titles, descriptions, slugs, redirects, images, headings and the depth of your content.
BOOST STAR Experts works with photographers, studios, service businesses, restaurants and small product brands on Squarespace. We are based in India and work remotely with clients worldwide. A single lead looks after your site, writes to you each week with what was done and meets you on calls during your normal hours. We set up metadata properly, fix slugs and redirects, cut image weight and plan content around what your customers search for. If your store grows past what Squarespace Commerce handles comfortably, Shopify is an option we can walk you through, without pressure.
- SEO title and description on every page
- Readable slugs and 301 URL mappings
- Images resized before upload
- Product pages with unique descriptions
- Blog categories and tags kept tidy
- Search Console verified and monitored
What Squarespace SEO has to get right
A fixed technical layer
Squarespace does not let you edit robots.txt or the sitemap, and template code is largely out of reach. When an unwanted page shows up in search, the fix has to come from page settings, such as hiding the page from search results, or from changing how the site is structured.
Heavy images and visual sections
Squarespace sites are often built around large photography, galleries and video banners. Uploading full-resolution images and stacking visual sections on the homepage slows loading on phones, which hurts both search performance and the first impression the design was meant to make.
Thin pages and default metadata
Many Squarespace sites have beautiful pages with very little text, product descriptions of a line or two, and SEO titles that were never changed from the page name. Search engines need clear, specific text to know which searches each page should appear for.

Frequently asked questions
Is Squarespace bad for SEO?
No, Squarespace is not bad for SEO. It covers the technical basics well and includes the main on-page controls. The trade-off is less control over code, robots.txt and sitemaps, which matters more for large or complex sites than for most small business and portfolio sites.
Can I add schema markup to Squarespace?
Yes, on plans that include code injection you can add custom JSON-LD to specific pages or across the site. Squarespace already outputs some structured data automatically, so we check what is there first and only add markup that fills real gaps, such as FAQs or service details.
How do I stop a page showing in Google on Squarespace?
You can hide a page from search results in its SEO settings, which adds a noindex tag. Pages that are already indexed drop out after Google recrawls them. For pages you have removed, a URL mapping to the most relevant live page is usually the better option.
How do you report on Squarespace SEO progress?
We report monthly using Google Search Console and Google Analytics, alongside Squarespace Analytics where useful. Reports show clicks, impressions, positions for target searches and the work done that month in plain language, with short written updates between reports.
