Shopify agency for Hong Kong brands selling to the world
Shopify stores that turn Hong Kong’s trading know-how into direct online sales: multi-currency pricing, cross-border shipping and marketing for buyers in Asia, Europe and North America.
Shopify experts for Hong Kong brands
Hong Kong has always been a trading city. Many of its businesses source or manufacture in the Greater Bay Area and sell to buyers abroad, historically through distributors and trade fairs. Shopify gives them a way to sell direct to consumers in the US, UK, Australia, Southeast Asia and beyond. Hong Kong’s free port status, lack of sales tax and strong air links help, but selling overseas means handling foreign currencies, taxes, duties and very different customer expectations.
BOOST STAR Experts builds Shopify stores for Hong Kong companies moving from wholesale or OEM work to their own brands, and for established retailers expanding abroad. We set up Shopify Markets for each target country, international shipping and duty handling, English-first content and the tax settings overseas markets require. Then we run SEO and paid campaigns aimed at buyers in those countries, not at Hong Kong itself.
Selling online in Hong Kong: what your store needs
Payments for overseas buyers
Shopify Payments is available to Hong Kong businesses, covering major cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, which is what most overseas shoppers use. PayPal remains important for buyers in Europe and North America, and buy-now-pay-later options vary by destination. We set up the mix your target countries expect and present prices in the buyer’s currency.
No sales tax at home, taxes abroad
Hong Kong has no VAT, GST or general sales tax and charges import duty only on a few goods such as tobacco and some alcohol. Your customers abroad are a different story: the EU, UK, Australia and others charge VAT or GST on imports. We configure Shopify to collect it where you are registered and show duties clearly.
Air freight and cross-border shipping
Hong Kong International Airport is one of the world’s busiest cargo hubs, so international express is fast. DHL Express, FedEx, UPS, SF Express and Hongkong Post all serve overseas customers, and many brands use fulfilment partners abroad for bigger markets. We set up rates, delivery estimates and duties-paid options per country.
Building a brand beyond OEM
Many Hong Kong companies make excellent products for other brands but have little direct-to-consumer experience. Overseas shoppers need brand stories, reviews, clear return policies and local-feeling service. Selling into mainland China usually runs through cross-border platforms such as Tmall Global or JD rather than an overseas Shopify store, so we plan channels honestly.

Frequently asked questions
Is Shopify Payments available for Hong Kong companies?
Yes. Hong Kong-registered businesses can use Shopify Payments for card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments, with payouts in Hong Kong dollars. We also add PayPal and market-specific options where your customers expect them, and set up multi-currency so buyers abroad pay in their own currency.
Do we need to charge VAT when selling to Europe or the UK?
Usually, yes. Low-value imports into the EU and UK are subject to VAT, which overseas sellers can collect at checkout through schemes such as the EU IOSS or UK VAT registration. Your tax adviser should confirm what applies to you. We then configure Shopify to calculate and display tax correctly for each market.
Can a Shopify store sell to customers in mainland China?
It is possible but often not the best route. Overseas websites can load slowly in mainland China, and familiar payment and social tools differ. Many Hong Kong brands sell to the mainland through cross-border platforms such as Tmall Global or JD and use Shopify for other markets. We help you choose based on your products.
We have been an OEM supplier. Can you help us launch our own brand?
Yes. We help shape brand positioning, design a store that tells your story, write product content for overseas buyers and plan launch campaigns. Your manufacturing knowledge is a strength, and we build pages that show quality, materials and craftsmanship in a way consumers understand and trust.
How does working with an India-based team suit Hong Kong hours?
It works well. India is 2.5 hours behind Hong Kong, so we share most of your afternoon. We meet when it suits you, keep tasks on a shared board and send written updates. For launches aimed at the US or Europe, we schedule cover around those markets’ peak hours too.
