Shopify development for Beauty brands

Selling colour cosmetics online comes down to one question the shopper cannot answer by looking at a screen: will this shade suit me? Foundation ranges run to dozens of tones, lipsticks look different under every light, and a wrong match leads to an unused product and a lost customer. Add constant launches, limited editions, creator collaborations and gift sets, and a beauty store has to move faster than most.

BOOST STAR Experts designs and builds Shopify stores for make-up, fragrance and beauty tool brands. We set up shade selectors with swatches on several skin tones, shade-finder quizzes, build-your-own palettes and launch pages that can handle a creator-driven rush. Our team then supports growth through SEO, Meta and TikTok ads and Klaviyo email, working remotely from India with calls in your business hours.

What makes Beauty eCommerce hard

Shade matching without a tester

A foundation or concealer range can include forty or more tones, and screen colour varies from phone to phone. If swatches are shot on one skin tone under one light, shoppers guess, order the wrong shade and either return it or never buy again. Inclusive shade imagery is now an expectation, not an extra.

Launches, drops and limited editions

Beauty runs on newness: seasonal palettes, collaborations and restocks of viral products. Each launch brings a short, intense traffic spike, often from one creator’s post. Stores need pre-launch sign-up pages, waitlists, purchase limits to stop resellers and pages that stay fast when thousands arrive at once.

Social proof that looks like the customer

Shoppers want to see a lipstick or blush on someone with their skin tone and undertone, not only on a model. Reviews without photos, or reviews that cannot be filtered by skin tone, leave the main buying question unanswered and push people back to TikTok to search for real swatches.

Low order values and gifting peaks

A single lip gloss rarely covers shipping and acquisition costs, so average order value matters. At the same time, a large share of sales lands around gifting seasons, when shoppers want ready-made sets, gift wrap and clear delivery cut-off dates rather than having to assemble a present product by product.

Our approach for Beauty stores

Store design

A bold, colour-led storefront where campaign imagery and new launches sit up front, with navigation by face, eyes, lips, cheeks and tools. Shade families are shown visually in menus and grids, so shoppers can spot a colour story before reading a single word.

Product pages

Shade selectors with true-colour swatches, arm and face swatches shot on light, medium and deep skin, undertone labels, finish and coverage details, application videos and a link to the shade finder for anyone unsure which tone to choose.

Collections & search

Filters for shade family, undertone, finish, coverage and vegan or cruelty-free status, plus search that recognises shade names and numbers. A shopper typing a shade name lands on that exact variant with its swatch already selected, not on a generic product.

SEO

Collection pages written for searches such as matte liquid lipstick or foundation for oily skin, how-to articles linked to the products they use, product schema with shade variants and fast-loading swatch images that can rank in Google Images.

Conversion (CRO)

Build-your-own kits and palettes with tiered pricing, free samples at a spend threshold, reviews filterable by skin tone, purchase limits on hyped drops and a sticky shade picker on mobile so the chosen colour is always visible beside add to cart.

Marketing & retention

Launch countdown and waitlist emails, post-purchase flows that suggest matching shades, creator affiliate tracking, TikTok and Meta catalogue ads by shade and a loyalty programme that rewards reviews with photos. Gifting campaigns go out with delivery cut-off dates built in.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a shade finder for our foundation range?

Yes. We build a short quiz that asks about skin tone, undertone and current shades used in other brands, then recommends one or two matches with their swatches. Answers are saved to the customer profile in Klaviyo, so follow-up emails show the right shade rather than the whole range.

Is virtual try-on worth adding to a make-up store?

It can help for lipstick, eyeshadow and hair colour, where the shade question is the main barrier. It adds cost and some page weight, so we usually start with strong multi-skin-tone swatches and a shade finder, then test a try-on app on your best-selling range before rolling it out.

How do you prepare a store for a big product launch?

We build a launch page with a waitlist, schedule the products to go live at a set time, add per-customer purchase limits, strip unnecessary scripts from the pages that will take the traffic and line up the email and SMS sends. After launch, sold-out shades switch to back-in-stock alerts automatically.

Can customers create their own palette or kit?

Yes. We set up bundle builders where shoppers choose shades for each slot of a palette or pick a set number of products for a kit, with the price adjusting as they go. Each pick still deducts from the correct inventory item, so stock stays accurate.

Do you handle selling beauty products in several countries?

We configure Shopify Markets for local currencies, prices and languages, and duties where needed. Cosmetics rules differ by market, for example on labelling and ingredient restrictions in the EU and UK, so we make sure product pages can show the right information per market while your compliance team confirms the content.
