Shopify agency for beauty and cosmetics brands in the UK
Shopify stores for British make-up and cosmetics labels that compete with Boots and Cult Beauty, ship cheaply through the letterbox and sell out at Christmas.
Beauty eCommerce in the UK
British beauty buyers are spoilt for choice. High-street chains, specialist online retailers and department stores all stock a wide range of brands, run frequent offers and reward loyalty points. Independent labels that sell direct need something those retailers cannot easily copy: a strong point of view, shade ranges that fit British skin tones, honest swatches and a gifting offer good enough to be someone’s Christmas present.
BOOST STAR Experts builds Shopify stores for UK cosmetics, make-up and fragrance brands, from first launch to Shopify Plus. We structure ingredient and safety data, plan shipping around Royal Mail size bands, and build advent calendar and gift-set launches that cope with sudden demand. The team works remotely from India, four and a half or five and a half hours ahead of the UK, so most of your working day overlaps with ours.

Selling beauty online in the UK
Responsible Person and SCPN
Cosmetics sold in Great Britain need a UK-based Responsible Person and must be notified on the government’s Submit Cosmetic Product Notification portal before sale. Northern Ireland still follows the EU process. Labels need an ingredient list using INCI names. We store INCI lists, batch details and warnings in structured fields so product pages match the notified formula.
Retailers, loyalty and offers
Boots, Superdrug, LookFantastic, Cult Beauty and Space NK train UK shoppers to expect points, regular percentage-off events and free samples with every order. Direct stores compete by building their own reward schemes, sample-with-purchase logic and gift-with-purchase thresholds. We set these up in Shopify so they lift order value without discounting the whole range.
Letterbox-sized parcels
Royal Mail prices parcels by size band, and an order that fits through a letterbox as a large letter costs far less to send and avoids failed deliveries. Lipsticks, liners and compacts often qualify. We help brands plan packaging and shipping rules so small orders stay in the cheapest band and larger kits move to tracked parcel services automatically.
Advertising standards and filters
The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that filters which exaggerate a cosmetic product’s effect should not be used in ads, including influencer posts. Under the CAP Code, paid creator content must be labelled as an ad. We keep product imagery realistic, add shade swatches on unretouched skin and include disclosure guidance in your creator briefs.
Our approach for Beauty stores
Store design
A bold, colour-led storefront where campaign imagery and new launches sit up front, with navigation by face, eyes, lips, cheeks and tools. Shade families are shown visually in menus and grids, so shoppers can spot a colour story before reading a single word.
Product pages
Shade selectors with true-colour swatches, arm and face swatches shot on light, medium and deep skin, undertone labels, finish and coverage details, application videos and a link to the shade finder for anyone unsure which tone to choose.
Collections & search
Filters for shade family, undertone, finish, coverage and vegan or cruelty-free status, plus search that recognises shade names and numbers. A shopper typing a shade name lands on that exact variant with its swatch already selected, not on a generic product.
SEO
Collection pages written for searches such as matte liquid lipstick or foundation for oily skin, how-to articles linked to the products they use, product schema with shade variants and fast-loading swatch images that can rank in Google Images.
Conversion (CRO)
Build-your-own kits and palettes with tiered pricing, free samples at a spend threshold, reviews filterable by skin tone, purchase limits on hyped drops and a sticky shade picker on mobile so the chosen colour is always visible beside add to cart.
Marketing & retention
Launch countdown and waitlist emails, post-purchase flows that suggest matching shades, creator affiliate tracking, TikTok and Meta catalogue ads by shade and a loyalty programme that rewards reviews with photos. Gifting campaigns go out with delivery cut-off dates built in.

Frequently asked questions
Can you build an advent calendar or Christmas gift-set launch?
Yes. Beauty advent calendars and gift sets are a major part of the UK festive season and often sell out. We build waitlist and pre-order pages, set per-customer purchase limits, show clear last-order dates for Christmas delivery and bundle components so stock of individual products is deducted correctly when a set sells.
Do we need anything different to sell into Northern Ireland and the EU?
Northern Ireland follows EU cosmetics rules, so products need an EU Responsible Person and notification on the EU portal as well as the GB process. EU customers also face customs and VAT on imports. We set up Shopify Markets with the right duty and tax handling, and can show stock from an EU warehouse if you add one.
Can our store run a points scheme like the big beauty retailers?
Yes. We set up a loyalty app with points for purchases, reviews and referrals, tiers for regular customers and birthday rewards. The key is designing rewards your margin can afford, such as early access, free full-size products or exclusive shades, rather than permanent discounts that train customers to wait.
How do you handle cruelty-free and vegan claims?
Animal testing for cosmetics is banned in the UK, so a cruelty-free claim needs to say more than that to be meaningful. Brands certified by schemes such as Leaping Bunny or The Vegan Society can show those marks. We add certification fields, filters for vegan products and clear wording, so claims match what you can actually prove.
