Shopify experts for Belgium brands

Selling online in Belgium means serving two main language communities at once. Flanders shops in Dutch, Wallonia in French, Brussels in both, and a small German-speaking area sits in the east. Belgian shoppers also buy heavily from Dutch and French webshops, so a local brand competes with Bol, Zalando and Coolblue from the start. Stores that speak the shopper’s language, offer Bancontact and deliver quickly earn trust faster than foreign sites.

BOOST STAR Experts builds and grows Shopify stores for Belgian brands and for international brands entering the Belgian market. We set up Dutch and French storefronts with Shopify Markets, Bancontact and other local payments, bpost and pickup-point delivery and the legal pages Belgian law expects. Then we work on SEO in both languages, paid campaigns split by region and conversion improvements based on your own analytics.

Selling online in Belgium: what your store needs

Bancontact first, cards second

Bancontact is the payment brand most Belgians carry, whether as a debit card or through its mobile app with a QR code. A Belgian checkout without it looks foreign. Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Apple Pay cover the rest, and Klarna is used for fashion. Shopify Payments is available in Belgium and supports Bancontact directly.

Enterprise number, VAT and consumer rights

Belgian webshops must show their company details including the enterprise number from the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (KBO/BCE). Shoppers get a 14-day withdrawal period and GDPR applies in full. Standard VAT is 21%, with 12% and 6% reduced rates, and the 6% rate covers many food items and books. Selling to other EU countries usually runs through the OSS scheme.

Short distances, pickup points

Belgium is small and dense, so next-day delivery is normal. bpost handles a large share of parcels and runs a wide network of pickup points and parcel lockers, alongside PostNL, DPD, GLS and DHL. Many shoppers prefer collecting from a nearby shop, so pickup-point selection at checkout tends to lift conversion.

Two languages, one store

Dutch and French search terms differ, and so do campaign tone and seasonal habits. A store that serves only one language loses half the country. With Shopify Markets we run Dutch and French versions on one domain, with hreflang, translated emails and separate product copy written for each audience rather than machine-translated text.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need separate stores for Flanders and Wallonia?

No. One Shopify store with Shopify Markets can serve Dutch and French versions, each with its own URLs, translated content and SEO tags. We write or review copy for each language, set the right default for every visitor and keep stock, orders and customers in a single admin.

Can you set up Bancontact on Shopify?

Yes. Bancontact is available through Shopify Payments for Belgian stores, as well as through several payment providers. We enable it, test both the card and the QR code flow on mobile, and place it prominently at checkout so Belgian shoppers see a payment method they recognise.

Which delivery options should a Belgian store offer?

Most Belgian stores offer home delivery and pickup-point collection, usually through bpost and one alternative such as PostNL, DPD or GLS. We connect your carriers through their Shopify apps or a shipping platform, show delivery estimates on product pages and set up a returns flow customers can use without contacting support.

How do you work with Belgian brands from India?

Our afternoon overlaps with your morning, so that is when we hold calls. Between calls we work from a shared project board and a staging store where you review changes. Launch dates and any out-of-hours support are agreed in advance, so nobody is waiting on an answer at a critical moment.

Can we also sell to the Netherlands and France?

Yes, and many Belgian brands do. Your Dutch content already suits Dutch shoppers with small adjustments, and French content can be extended for France. We add iDEAL for the Netherlands and Cartes Bancaires for France, set up OSS VAT and adjust shipping rates for each market.
