Shopify experts for Norway brands

Norway is a small market by population but a valuable one. Household incomes are high, card and mobile payments have almost replaced cash, and shoppers are comfortable buying online for everything from outdoor gear to groceries. They are also demanding: they expect Vipps at checkout, clear delivery times to a pickup point near home and honest prices that already include VAT. Brands that get these details right find loyal, high-value customers.

BOOST STAR Experts builds and grows Shopify stores for Norwegian brands and for foreign brands adding Norway as a market. We set up Norwegian payments and delivery, write or adapt product content in Norwegian, and handle the VOEC and MVA questions that often trip up overseas sellers. Then we work on SEO, paid social and conversion, so the store earns its traffic and turns it into orders.

Selling online in Norway: what your store needs

Vipps and card-first shoppers

Vipps, now part of Vipps MobilePay, is the payment app almost every Norwegian adult uses, and many look for it before entering card details. Visa and Mastercard debit cards are the other default, with Klarna invoices and instalments popular for fashion and furniture. PayPal is used mainly for buying from abroad.

MVA, VOEC and consumer rights

Norway is outside the EU, so its VAT, called MVA, works separately: 25% on most goods and 15% on food. Overseas sellers shipping low-value goods to consumers usually register for the VOEC scheme and charge MVA at checkout. Consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal, and Norway follows GDPR as an EEA member.

Pickup points across a long country

Posten and Bring cover the whole country, while PostNord, Helthjem and Instabox compete hard on price and speed in the larger cities. Most shoppers choose a pickup point or parcel box, and delivery to northern regions takes longer. Showing realistic delivery days by postcode prevents disappointed customers and support emails.

Language, trust and outdoor culture

Norwegians read English well, but Norwegian copy feels more trustworthy and captures local search terms. Shoppers research carefully and read reviews, and outdoor life (friluftsliv) shapes demand for clothing, footwear and equipment. Seasonal peaks follow the weather: ski gear before winter, hiking and boating products in spring.

Frequently asked questions

Can we offer Vipps on a Shopify store?

Yes. Vipps MobilePay offers a Shopify integration, and some payment providers include it as well. We install it, test the full flow on mobile and desktop, and place the Vipps option where Norwegian shoppers expect to see it. We also check that refunds and partial captures work for your order process.

We are based outside Norway. Do we need to register for VOEC?

If you sell goods worth under NOK 3,000 per item directly to Norwegian consumers, VOEC registration is usually how you charge Norwegian MVA at checkout so parcels clear customs without extra fees for the customer. We configure taxes and checkout in Shopify accordingly, but your accountant should confirm your registration.

How do you work with a Norwegian team from India?

Our working day overlaps with your morning, so calls and reviews happen then. Progress, questions and decisions are written up daily on a shared project board. For launches and campaign go-lives, we agree the timing in advance so someone is online when it matters.

Should our store be in Norwegian, English or both?

For shoppers in Norway, Norwegian is the better choice: it builds trust and matches what people type into Google. If you also sell to Sweden, Denmark or beyond, Shopify Markets can run several languages and currencies from one store, with hreflang so each version ranks in the right country.

Can you connect our store to Bring or Helthjem?

Yes. We connect your store to Bring, Helthjem or a multi-carrier shipping platform, show pickup points at checkout and print labels from Shopify. Delivery estimates by postcode help customers in the north know what to expect, which matters in a country this long.
