Shopify experts for Italy brands

Italian online shopping has grown steadily, but it still has its own habits. Shoppers lean heavily on PayPal and prepaid cards, many still ask for cash on delivery, and trust is earned through clear return terms, visible company details and reviews. At the same time, Italy’s brands in fashion, leather, food and furniture carry strong international appeal, so many stores sell abroad as much as at home.

BOOST STAR Experts builds and grows Shopify stores for Italian businesses and for foreign brands entering Italy. We handle Italian localisation, local payment options, courier integrations and the legal information Italian sites must show, then work on SEO, Google and Meta campaigns and conversion improvements. For export-focused brands we add multi-language storefronts so one store serves Italy, the rest of Europe and beyond.

Selling online in Italy: what your store needs

PayPal, prepaid cards and pay-later

PayPal is one of the most used payment methods for Italian online shoppers, and prepaid cards such as Postepay are common, especially among younger buyers. Satispay has a loyal following, and Scalapay and Klarna are popular for spreading fashion purchases. Shopify Payments is available in Italy and covers cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay alongside these options.

VAT, Partita IVA and consumer rules

Standard VAT in Italy is 22%, with reduced rates of 10%, 5% and 4% for categories such as certain foods and books. Italian websites are expected to display the company’s VAT number (Partita IVA). The Consumer Code gives a 14-day withdrawal right, GDPR applies, and invoices go through the national electronic invoicing system (SDI).

Couriers, lockers and cash on delivery

Poste Italiane and its SDA courier, BRT and GLS carry most domestic parcels, with DHL and UPS used for express and export. Parcel lockers and pickup points are spreading in cities. Cash on delivery (contrassegno) is still requested in parts of the south, so we often set it up with a small surcharge and clear rules.

Italian-language trust signals

Italian shoppers expect a fully Italian storefront, from product descriptions to order emails. Amazon is a strong habit, and Zalando matters for fashion, so brand stores need clear reasons to buy direct. Detailed product photography, origin stories such as Made in Italy claims backed by facts, and visible reviews all help convert.

Frequently asked questions

Which payment methods should an Italian Shopify store offer?

At minimum, cards through Shopify Payments, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. For fashion and lifestyle brands we usually add Scalapay or Klarna, and Satispay where your audience uses it. Cash on delivery can lift orders in some regions, but we set limits so it does not create too many refused parcels.

Can you connect Shopify to Italian electronic invoicing?

Yes. Italy’s SDI system requires electronic invoices for many transactions, and several Shopify apps and accounting tools generate and send them automatically. We connect the one that fits your accountant’s workflow and make sure customers can enter a tax code or VAT number at checkout when they need an invoice.

Is it worth selling abroad from an Italian Shopify store?

For many Italian brands, yes. Food, fashion, leather goods and design products have strong demand in Germany, France, the US and beyond. Shopify Markets lets you add languages, currencies and local prices on one store, while EU sales are handled through the OSS VAT scheme.

How does a team in India work with Italian hours?

There is a comfortable overlap: our afternoon is your morning. We hold calls before your lunch break, share progress on a project board and send a written update at the end of our working day. Launch dates and any weekend work are agreed in advance.

Do you write content in Italian?

We work with Italian-speaking writers and translators for product pages, SEO content and emails, and we ask your team to review key pages before launch. Search terms are researched in Italian, since literal translations of English keywords rarely match how Italian shoppers actually search.
