Shopify experts for Bulgaria brands

Bulgarian online shopping has a few habits that set it apart. Many shoppers still pay cash on delivery, most parcels go to a courier office or locker rather than to the door, and customers often open the parcel to check the goods before paying. The country switched from the lev to the euro at the start of 2026, which has made selling to and from the rest of the eurozone simpler. Bulgarian rose cosmetics, food and fashion brands are increasingly selling across the EU.

BOOST STAR Experts builds and grows Shopify stores for Bulgarian brands and for EU brands entering Bulgaria. We set up a Bulgarian-language storefront, euro pricing, cash on delivery and card payments, and integrations with Econt, Speedy and lockers. Then we work on SEO in Bulgarian, Google and Meta campaigns and conversion work, including reducing refused COD parcels.

Selling online in Bulgaria: what your store needs

Cash on delivery and cards

Cash on delivery (nalozhen platezh) is still one of the most common ways to pay, especially for first orders, though card payments are growing fast. Shoppers also use bank transfer, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and Bulgaria’s ePay.bg system. We set up card payments and COD side by side and track refusal rates to decide where COD limits make sense.

Euro changeover, VAT and EU rules

Prices are now in euros, but older orders, reports and supplier data may still be in leva, so we check conversions during set-up. VAT is 20% on most goods. As an EU member, Bulgaria applies GDPR, the 14-day right of withdrawal and EU consumer rules, and stores should check sales registration requirements under Ordinance N-18 with their accountant.

Courier offices and lockers

Econt and Speedy dominate domestic delivery, with dense networks of offices and lockers across the country, and BOX NOW and Sameday’s easybox lockers growing quickly. Many shoppers prefer to collect from an office near home or work. Checkout should let them pick an office or locker from a list, with door delivery as an option.

Cyrillic, eMAG and price comparison

A Bulgarian storefront in Cyrillic builds trust, and Bulgarian search terms drive most local traffic. Shoppers compare prices on eMAG and other platforms and check reviews closely. Brands win direct sales with clear return policies, fast replies on Facebook Messenger or Viber and the option to inspect a parcel before paying.

Frequently asked questions

Can our Shopify store offer cash on delivery in Bulgaria?

Yes. Shopify supports cash on delivery, and Econt and Speedy collect payment and transfer it back to you. We set up COD alongside card payments, add optional fees or limits and connect courier integrations so labels and COD amounts are created automatically from each order.

Can customers choose an Econt or Speedy office at checkout?

Yes. Courier apps for Econt and Speedy add an office and locker selector to checkout, using the couriers’ live office lists. Shoppers choose a location near them, and the label is created with the right office code, which avoids errors and returned parcels.

What changed for Shopify stores with the euro?

Your store currency should now be the euro, and prices, discounts and shipping rates need to be in euros too. We check that apps, invoices and accounting exports use the new currency and that old lev amounts in reports are converted correctly at the fixed rate.

Can we sell from Bulgaria to the rest of the EU?

Yes. Shopify Markets lets you add countries such as Romania, Greece and Germany with their own languages and prices. We set up VAT under the OSS scheme as your accountant advises, international shipping and local payment methods, so EU customers get a familiar checkout.

How does working with an agency in India fit Bulgarian hours?

Bulgaria is only 2.5 to 3.5 hours behind us, so calls fit easily into your morning or early afternoon. We send written updates, keep tasks on a shared board and review every change on a staging store before it goes live.
