Shopify experts for India brands

India’s D2C market has grown quickly, driven by cheap mobile data, UPI payments and a generation of founders building brands outside the big marketplaces. Shoppers are mobile-first and value-conscious, many still prefer cash on delivery, and a large share of orders now come from smaller cities and towns. A Shopify store that works in India has to handle all of that while keeping return-to-origin losses under control.

BOOST STAR Experts is an India-based Shopify team working in IST, so Indian brands get same-hours collaboration without an offshore hand-off. We build Shopify stores with Indian payment gateways, courier aggregators and GST invoicing, then grow them with Meta and Google ads, SEO, WhatsApp and email marketing. We work remotely with brands in every city, from metro startups to family businesses going D2C for the first time.

Selling online in India: what your store needs

UPI, cards and cash on delivery

UPI through apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm is the most common way to pay online, followed by cards, net banking and wallets. Cash on delivery is still widely expected, especially outside metros. Since Shopify Payments is not available in India, we set up gateways such as Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree.

GST, consumer rules and product labelling

Sellers need GST registration and tax invoices for orders. The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 require clear seller details, a grievance officer and transparent return and refund policies, and Legal Metrology rules require details such as MRP and country of origin on listings. The DPDP Act, 2023 governs how customer data is handled.

Couriers, pin codes and RTO

Most D2C brands ship through aggregators like Shiprocket or direct partners such as Delhivery, Blue Dart and Xpressbees. Serviceability varies by pin code, and returned COD orders (RTO) can eat into margins. We add pin code checks, COD verification and partial prepaid nudges to reduce failed deliveries.

Mobile-first, WhatsApp and festive peaks

Most traffic arrives on mobile, often from Instagram and WhatsApp. Shoppers compare prices with Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra and Nykaa, so brand stores need clear offers and fast pages. Diwali and the wider festive season bring the year’s biggest sales, and planning stock, offers and ad budgets for it starts months ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Which payment gateway should an Indian Shopify store use?

Shopify Payments is not available in India, so stores use third-party gateways. Razorpay, PayU and Cashfree are common choices and support UPI, cards, net banking, wallets and EMI. We help you compare fees and settlement terms, then set up and test the gateway and any COD rules.

How do you reduce COD returns and RTO losses?

We combine several measures: pin code serviceability checks, COD order confirmation via WhatsApp or SMS, small COD fees or prepaid discounts, address validation and blocking repeat offenders. Together these usually reduce failed deliveries, and we track RTO rates by region so the rules can be tuned over time.

Can Shopify generate GST invoices?

Shopify can apply GST to prices, and we install a GST invoicing app that creates compliant tax invoices with GSTIN, HSN codes and the correct split between CGST, SGST and IGST. Your accountant should confirm HSN codes and rates for your products before launch.

Do you work with brands in my city?

Yes. Our team is India-based and works fully remotely, so we serve brands in every city through video calls, WhatsApp groups and shared project boards. We work in IST, which means quick replies during your business hours and launch support at the times that suit you.

Should we sell on our own Shopify store or on marketplaces?

Most Indian brands do both. Marketplaces bring volume, while your own store gives better margins, customer data and brand control. We build the Shopify store as your main brand home and can connect inventory with marketplace channels so stock stays in sync.
