Shopify agency for brands across Indonesia
Shopify stores for Indonesian brands that want their own channel alongside Shopee and TikTok Shop, with local payments, couriers and Bahasa Indonesia content.
Shopify experts for Indonesia brands
Indonesia is South-East Asia’s largest eCommerce market, but most of it runs through marketplaces. Shopee, Tokopedia (now combined with TikTok Shop), Lazada and Blibli dominate, and social selling through Instagram and WhatsApp is everywhere. Ambitious local brands increasingly want their own store too: a place to own customer data, build loyalty and stop competing purely on price and free-shipping vouchers set by the marketplace.
BOOST STAR Experts builds Shopify stores for Indonesian brands and for foreign brands entering the country. We connect local payment gateways for QRIS, e-wallets and bank virtual accounts, integrate domestic couriers, write Bahasa Indonesia content and set up WhatsApp ordering where it helps. Then we work on search, Meta and TikTok advertising and retention, so the brand store earns its place next to marketplace channels.
Selling online in Indonesia: what your store needs
QRIS, e-wallets and virtual accounts
Indonesian shoppers pay with e-wallets such as GoPay, OVO, DANA and ShopeePay, scan QRIS codes, or transfer through bank virtual accounts at BCA, Mandiri, BRI or BNI. Credit card use is low. Shopify Payments is not available here, so we connect gateways such as Xendit or Midtrans that bring these methods to Shopify checkout.
VAT, halal and product registration
VAT (PPN) applies to most goods at an effective 11%. Food, drinks, cosmetics and supplements generally need BPOM registration, and the halal product law is phasing in mandatory halal certification across food, beverages and cosmetics. The Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) now governs how stores collect and use customer data.
Couriers across thousands of islands
JNE, J&T Express, SiCepat, AnterAja, Ninja Xpress and Pos Indonesia cover the archipelago, with very different delivery times between Java and the outer islands. Same-day delivery through GoSend and GrabExpress is common in big cities. Showing realistic delivery estimates by region prevents complaints and cancelled orders.
Marketplace habits and COD
Shoppers are used to marketplace vouchers, flash sales and payday campaigns, plus double-date events such as 11.11 and 12.12. Cash on delivery is still expected by many first-time buyers outside the big cities. A brand store needs clear reasons to buy direct, such as exclusive bundles, member pricing or faster customer service.

Frequently asked questions
Can Shopify accept QRIS and GoPay in Indonesia?
Yes, through a local payment gateway. Shopify Payments is not offered in Indonesia, so we connect a provider such as Xendit or Midtrans, which supports QRIS, e-wallets, virtual accounts and cards. We test each method on mobile, since most Indonesian shoppers will check out from a phone.
Why build a Shopify store if we already sell on Shopee and Tokopedia?
Marketplaces bring traffic, but they control pricing pressure, fees and customer data. Your own store lets you build an email and WhatsApp list, run loyalty programmes and sell bundles that marketplaces cannot match. Most brands we talk to keep marketplaces and use Shopify as their main brand channel.
Can you set up cash on delivery?
Yes. Shopify supports COD as a manual payment method, and some courier integrations handle COD collection. We usually limit it by region or order value and add confirmation steps, for example a WhatsApp message, to reduce failed deliveries and refused parcels.
Should the store be in Bahasa Indonesia or English?
For local customers, Bahasa Indonesia is essential, and casual, friendly wording usually works better than formal language. Some premium and export-focused brands add an English version for tourists and international buyers. We set up both languages on one store with Shopify Markets where needed.
How closely can your team work with ours in Jakarta?
Very closely. With only 1.5 hours between Jakarta and India, our working days almost fully overlap. We hold regular calls, use WhatsApp or Slack for quick questions and can react quickly during big sales events such as 11.11 or Harbolnas.
