Shopify experts for Japan brands

Japan is one of the largest eCommerce markets in the world, and also one of the most demanding. Shoppers expect precise product information, polite and complete Japanese copy, choice of delivery date and time slot, and payment options that go well beyond cards. Rakuten Ichiba, Amazon and Yahoo! Shopping set the baseline, so a brand store has to earn trust with detail, gift options and service that feels considered from product page to packaging.

BOOST STAR Experts builds and grows Shopify stores for Japanese brands and for overseas brands entering Japan. We set up Shopify Payments with cards and konbini payment, add wallets such as PayPay and Amazon Pay through supported providers, integrate Yamato or Sagawa delivery with time slots, and build the legal disclosure page Japanese law requires. We then focus on SEO, advertising and conversion work, working with your Japanese copywriters on language and tone.

Selling online in Japan: what your store needs

Konbini, wallets and cards

Credit cards, including JCB, are widely used, but many shoppers prefer to pay at a convenience store, by bank transfer or with QR wallets such as PayPay and Rakuten Pay. Cash on delivery is still chosen for some orders. Shopify Payments in Japan supports cards and konbini payment, and we add other methods through apps where they make sense.

Tokushoho page and consumption tax

The Act on Specified Commercial Transactions requires online sellers to publish a disclosure page with the seller’s name, address, contact details, pricing, delivery and return terms. Prices are normally shown including consumption tax, which is 10%, or 8% for most food and drink. Registered sellers also need to follow the qualified invoice system for business customers.

Delivery dates and time slots

Yamato Transport, Sagawa Express and Japan Post deliver most parcels, and customers are used to choosing a delivery date and time slot at checkout. Small items often go by Nekopos or Yu-Packet into the mailbox. We add date and slot selection, connect your warehouse or label software and show realistic dispatch times on product pages.

Detail, trust and gift culture

Japanese shoppers read product pages closely, expect sizing in centimetres, full ingredient or material lists and many photos, and value reviews. Seasonal gifting such as ochugen and oseibo matters, as do noshi wrapping and gift messages. Marketplaces like Rakuten and Zozotown remain important, so a brand store needs clear reasons to buy direct.

Frequently asked questions

Can customers pay at a convenience store?

Yes. Shopify Payments in Japan supports konbini payment, where customers receive a payment number and pay in cash at a convenience store. The order is confirmed once payment arrives. We set the payment window, adjust stock holding rules and make sure customers receive clear instructions by email.

What is a tokushoho page and do we need one?

It is the legal disclosure page required by the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions. It lists the seller’s name, address, phone number, pricing, payment methods, delivery timing and return policy. Every Japanese online store needs one, and we build it as a clear page linked from the footer and checkout.

Can customers choose a delivery date and time slot?

Yes. We add a date and time slot picker at checkout that matches the slots your carrier offers, then pass the choice to your warehouse or label software. We also block dates you cannot fulfil, such as during holidays like Golden Week or New Year.

Do you write the Japanese copy yourselves?

We work in English and handle the technical side of a Japanese store: Japanese web fonts, line breaking and layout, the translation workflow and SEO structure. For marketing copy we work with your native Japanese writers or translators, because tone and politeness levels need a native speaker to get right.

How does the time difference with India work?

Japan is 3.5 hours ahead, so our working day overlaps with your afternoon. We hold calls then and send written updates, and progress made in our late afternoon is waiting when your team arrives the next morning.
