Shopify Development for Germany brands

Development for German shoppers carries more legal detail than most markets. Unit prices must sit next to the main price for many products, the order button wording is regulated, legal texts change and must update without breaking layouts, and since mid-2025 many online shops also fall under new accessibility rules. On the operations side, German merchants often run established ERP or warehouse software that the store has to work with.

BOOST STAR Experts provides Shopify developers for German brands and international brands entering Germany, working remotely from India. We build custom themes, configure Shopify Plus, connect ERP and fulfilment systems, and make sure the store meets German presentation rules in code. Your legal texts come from your lawyer or a legal-text service, and we integrate them so updates flow in automatically.

  • German-localised Shopify theme
  • Unit price display
  • BFSG accessibility build
  • JTL or Xentral integration
  • Legal-text API connection
  • DACH markets with Shopify Markets

What shopify development in Germany needs

Unit prices and price display

Germany’s Price Indication Ordinance requires a base price, such as per kilogram or per litre, for many goods sold by weight or volume. We store base units in metafields and show the unit price beside the main price on product pages, collection grids and the cart, including for each variant.

Accessibility under the BFSG

Germany’s Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) has applied to many consumer online shops since 28 June 2025, with an exemption for micro-enterprises. We build to WCAG 2.1 AA, covering keyboard navigation, screen-reader labels, contrast and accessible forms, and help you prepare the required accessibility statement.

ERP and warehouse connections

Many German merchants manage stock, invoicing and marketplaces through JTL-Wawi, Xentral, Billbee or plentysystems. We connect these to Shopify using their connectors or the Shopify Admin API, agree which system owns stock and prices, and test the full order, cancellation and return flow before launch.

Legal texts and checkout wording

Legal-text services such as Händlerbund, IT-Recht Kanzlei or Trusted Shops can update Impressum, terms and privacy pages via API. We connect them so changes appear without manual copying, add checkbox and checkout notices with Checkout Extensibility, and make sure the final button states clearly that the order is binding and requires payment.

Frequently asked questions

Does the BFSG apply to our Shopify store?

It applies to most businesses selling to consumers online in Germany, but micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees and annual turnover or balance sheet of no more than 2 million euros are exempt for services. We can audit your store against WCAG and fix issues, but your lawyer should confirm whether the law applies to you.

Can you connect Shopify to JTL-Wawi?

Yes. JTL offers a connector for Shopify, and we set it up so products, stock and orders sync between JTL-Wawi and the store. We map variants, tax classes and shipping methods carefully, then run test orders including cancellations and returns, because that is where integrations usually fail.

Can one Shopify store serve Germany, Austria and Switzerland?

Yes. Shopify Markets lets you sell in euros to Germany and Austria and in Swiss francs to Switzerland, with different prices, taxes and shipping rules. Switzerland is outside the EU, so duties and customs need extra setup, and we plan that before launch.

How long does Shopify development for the German market take?

A localised theme with German payments and legal texts typically takes 5 to 9 weeks. Builds with an ERP integration, B2B pricing or multiple DACH markets usually take 8 to 14 weeks. Translation and legal review by your side are planned into the schedule from the start.
